The U.S. Fire Marshall has already checked buildings that have the electric meters in storage closets (which always need to remain unlocked.) Several closets were found containing furniture items and paint cans (very combustible!), and other objects. These storage closets are to be cleared of any items except hurricane panels for side-lights in units where owners are in residence. (Vacant units should already have the shutters closed.) Patio items or potted plants obstructing access to entry doors or fire extinguisher boxes must be moved. Deadline to have all items cleared from storage closets is July 20 when the U.S. Fire Marshall returns to follow-up on inspections. Non-compliance by owners may result in fines. The Administration will be checking storage closets prior to that date.
