Former President and Long-Serving Board Member of Waterside Village
Waterside Village marks with sadness the passing of Roland Durand, a former President of the Board of Directors and a dedicated member of the Board for more than fourteen years.
Mr. Durand’s impact on Waterside Village was both profound and lasting. During the early years of the community, when many units remained unsold and the future of Waterside was uncertain, he played a pivotal role in stabilizing the development. By acquiring a block of more than twenty units, he helped free the community from the control of the original contractor and developer, allowing Waterside Village to move forward as a self-governed association. Without his vision and commitment at that critical time, Waterside Village might look very different today.
After selling his first condominium, Mr. Durand spent several years away from the community before returning, once again purchasing a unit and continuing his involvement. Members of his family remain part of the Waterside Village community today, a testament to his lasting connection to this place.
Mr. Durand passed away on January 16, 2026, at the age of 96, at Hôpital Laval in Québec City. He was the son of the late Achille Durand and the late Alexina Duchesneau. He was the partner of Yvette Gingras and was predeceased by Georgette Careau and Yvette Chabot. He was a native of Loretteville, Québec.
The family will receive condolences at the Lépine Cloutier Funeral Complex, located at 1500 Wilfrid-Hamel Boulevard, Québec City, on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
Waterside Village extends its sincere condolences to Mr. Durand’s family and loved ones. We honor his leadership, his foresight, and his many years of service to the community he helped shape. His legacy will remain an enduring part of Waterside Village’s history.
