Paulette Shane, born in Chicago, passed away on May 6, 2026, following a sudden medical complication. A devoted nurse, educator, therapist, mom, grandma and friend, she was a trusted source of wisdom, compassion, and guidance to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She had a rare gift for connecting with others and made a profound impact on every life she touched.

Paulette shared a remarkable 63-year love story with her husband, Mike (current vice-president of our board of directors) —a true partnership defined by deep devotion and joy. They were rarely seen without holding hands, their love palpable to all who knew them and an enduring example of what it means to truly share a life.

Together they raised three children, Aurora, David, and D’atra. Paulette’s greatest joy was her granddaughter, Jessica, who was the light of her life. They shared a love of baking, art, nature, and birds—simple moments that meant everything.

Though it is impossible to capture her fully in words, Paulette’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched with her kindness, insight, and unwavering presence.
